A trio of transplanted Southerners attempt to adjust to their new life in a retirement condo near the Arizona/Mexico border. One of them, later dubbed “Nana Sophia,” secretly puts out food and water for people crossing the border. Mad cap preparations for their granddaughter’s wedding are thrown off track when a Guatemalan refugee seeks shelter in their home. A human connection emerges as she tells of her Mayan heritage and sacred beliefs. Each character must confront their deepest prejudices and fears, and choose a course of action that may be very unpopular with the rest of the family.
